Chatel
Châtel is a typical Savoyarde village on the border with Switzerland. The resort lies at 1200m but many of the slopes are north facing and do retain the snow throughout the season. There are 3 main ski areas in the village, the nearest being Super Châtel, the others are Linga and Pre-La-Joux, the latter being the most convenient for the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski areas in the world! Les Portes du Soleil is a region of the Alps encompassing 13 resorts between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland, popular for skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports. The region offers 650 km of marked runs and about 230 lifts in total, spread over 14 valleys and about 400 square miles.
Snow dumps over the Portes du Soleil are common and snow making ensure that slopes are kept healthy during warmer periods.
Châtel has 49 runs of varied terrain, spanning a total distance of 85kms within the ski resort. The runs are served by a system of 41 lifts. Of the runs, 15 slopes are geared towards beginner level skiers, 13 towards intermediates, and 16 towards experts. There are also five black level runs catering to adrenalin junkies or extremely advanced skiers. Châtel offers skiing suitable for all levels, and the resort is known for its excellent intermediate runs and superb ski tuition. Châtel also has 36kms of cross-country skiing routes. Châtel is located between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, It is one of the most northern of the French Alpine ski resorts, and can be easily reached from Geneva Airport which is just over an hour away!
